Special Agent (FBI)
The first Muslim serving as a Special Agent in the history of the FBI, Mr. Abdel-Hafiz held positions at the FBI’s Washington D.C. headquarters, the FBI Dallas Division, as the FBI Assistant Legal Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and as lead case agent in prosecutions in many major U.S. cities.
Special Agent (FBI). Mr. Abdel-Hafiz spent more than two decades with the FBI investigating international terrorism, national security cases, and white-collar offenses. Among the many cases of national or international significance of recent time that Special Agent Abdel-Hafiz led either assigned by the FBI’s headquarter or by assisting local U.S. Attorney Offices and international counter terrorism units are the Husam Somadi case, the Sour Gas investigation, the London subway attacks, the explosion of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, the East Africa American Embassies terrorist attacks in Tanzania, U.S.S. Cole attack in Yemen and the Khaled Aldowsary case. In addition to his broad expertise in national security cases, Mr. Abdel-Hafiz has substantial experience with white-collar healthcare fraud investigations.
Awards. The Department of Justice, the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have recognized Mr. Abdel-Hafiz extraordinary contributions to public service in a plethora of awards. To list only a fraction, Mr. Abdel-Hafiz received the FBI Director’s award for contribution during the trial of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman in New York City; the United States Attorney’s award for translation excellence during the trial of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman; recognition letters from the Special Agents in Charge of the Dallas Division and the Buffalo Division in the Lackawanna Six Sleeper Cell case in New York— as well as awards from foreign dignitaries such as King Hussain of Jordan, Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, and the Jordanian Intelligence Service, to name only a few.
Specialized Expertise & Training. In addition to being fluent in twelve Arabic language dialects, Mr. Abdel-Hafiz is a Certified FBI Interrogator of high value detainees, Certified Expert Witness in Arabic and English translations with the United States Federal Courts, Certified Human Intelligence Collector, Certified FBI Undercover Special Agent, Certified International Terrorism Witness with the United States Federal Courts, and a Certified FBI Adjunct Faculty with emphasis on the Middle East and Islamic culture. Mr. Abdel-Hafiz graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the National Security and Decision-Making course at the United States Naval War College, and Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.
Mr. Abdel-Hafiz assists clients under investigation by federal law enforcement in the areas of national security, international financial crimes, and white-collar offenses.
